Well, video games are now officially an art form, at least according to the National Endowment for the Arts. Something tells me Roger Ebert won't like hearing about this. Personally I think it's about time that games are recognized for what they can be. Obviously not all games are "art," I mean I don't play Call of Duty expecting to see something rivaling Picasso. But I don't expect much in terms of art from a movie like The Expendables either.
There is a wide spectrum of art, and I'm glad that video games are now considered part of that spectrum.
Speaking of video game art, I can't wait for LA Noire to come out. This game looks absolutely amazing, and you should go check it out if you haven't heard much about it. It comes out in only 10 days.
Finally, this little picture got my pretty excited when I saw it today. Apparently they are in testing right now, but hopefully they will be hitting store shelves soon. This could be the best food invention since the baconator
I also cant wait for LA Noire good blog keep it up boss.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the blogging world, and yes, in fact video games are an art, and they are one of my favourites!
ReplyDeleteTo me, art is a form of expression. And video games perfectly fulfill that requirement.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.gaminglives.com/2011/02/01/eat-your-art-out/ An article similar to this my cousin wrote. Not blogging exactly, though it did win him a competition.
ReplyDeletefinally, nice read! following!
ReplyDeleteLA Noire is going to be sick.
ReplyDeleteI stopped caring about what Roger Ebert said back when he said Night of the Living Dead was the worst movie ever.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, especially the Oreos haha.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, they're finally considered an art form, eh? Pretty interesting!
ReplyDeleteIf you think about it though, it's silly to say otherwise. They have writing, music and visual art within them. Are those not art forms? Sure, not every game is good and worthy of being called art, but neither is every song, story or painting!
I can't wait for LA Noire either. Looks really well done. I heard it has a really long story also
ReplyDeleteWelcome to blogging bro
ReplyDeleteThe most artistic game that comes to my mind right now is Shenmue. Everything about that game moves me. A beautiful tale that, tragically, was never finished....
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for brink
ReplyDeleteI've heard about this. I still say, maybe it's ok for some indie games.
ReplyDeleteYou should play The Path... Graphics are not something special, but the whole game is freakin piece of art. Best goddamn mindblown game out there
ReplyDeleteIts about god damn Time!

ReplyDeleteVideo games are certainly art. At least some are. The care and artistry that goes behind some titles is astonishing.
ReplyDeletei n e e e e e e e e e d....OREOS!! those look delicious. I want some like right now. And as far as video games...they are art dude....its crazy what you can experience through them ^_^.
ReplyDeleteThe text that old journalist has written is highly lame. Games Are Art.
ReplyDeleteAnyone that claims games aren't art is foolish. The talent required to make a game half-decent looking is incredible. But let's not forget creating an decent physic engine or anything along those lines requires a great sense of feel and balance which I find to be art as well.
ReplyDeleteSaying video games aren't art was the only time I got mad at Ebert. Hopefully stuff like this will eventually cause him to change his opinion.
ReplyDeleteGraphics are not something special, but the whole game is freakin piece of art.
